Ocasio-Cortez Invokes ‘Girl Math’ Meme in Hitting McCarthy Over Spending Fight

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Tuesday invoked the popular 'girl math' meme to criticize House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., over House Republicans' inability to agree on spending measures.

"Boy math is needing 15 attempts to count the votes correctly to become Speaker and then shutting down the government 9 months later," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The comments from Ocasio-Cortez play on the popular TikTok "girl math" trend that points fun at how some women rationalize spending so they consider their purchases "free."

Ocasio also told the House leader to go "pound sand."

"McCarthy already got his meeting w/ Biden and they struck a deal to keep gov open months ago," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a separate post. "GOP held the entire US gov hostage in exchange for cuts & forced restart of student loan payments."

Should McCarthy and House lawmakers fail to negotiate spending measures and fund the government by Saturday, the government will shut down.
