Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday criticized Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul's belief that New York City should stop the flow of migrants from the city to other parts of the state.

“She’s the governor of the state of New York," said Adams. "New York City is in that state. Every county in this state should be part of this."

Politico reported Adams' comments, which occurred, at a New York Law School and Center for New York City Law event.

New York has been facing a surge of migrants that Adams has said could cost the city $12 billion over the next three years. New York City has become a "funnel" for migrants, according to Adams, who says many arrive there and then go off to other areas of the state.

Hochul has requested additional federal assistance, and both Hochul and Adams have been critical of President Joe Biden's response to the situation.

Adams lobbied Hochul to order other cities and counties not to block migrants from coming to their areas, which Hochul has declined to do.
