Nikki Haley Complains ‘Drama and Chaos Follow’ Trump: ‘We Pay the Price for It’

The 2024 GOP hopeful said Republicans are 'tired' of former president's baggage — and are losing elections because of it

Many observers believe Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, won the first GOP presidential debate and could lead the party’s 2024 contenders if Donald Trump isn’t in the runningAnna Moneymaker/Getty Images

"Chaos and drama" follow Donald Trump, and Republicans are paying the price for it in elections, Nikki Haley argued on Sunday.

The 2024 GOP hopeful joined Shannon Bream on Fox News Sunday and dismissed Trump's major polling lead over his competitors, pointing out that Republicans have lost more than won most election cycles in recent years, with Democrats recently picking up major election wins across the country.

"The problem is drama and chaos follow him. Whether fairly or not, it is constantly following him, and Americans feel it ... we pay the price for it," Haley told Bream after she celebrated her own poll numbers.

Trump held a lead over President Joe Biden in five key swing states in a recent New York Times/Siena College survey, but Haley also led the president, and saw her support among Republican voters bump up (though she still trails Trump).

Haley argued that a 2024 victory for Republicans needs to be decisive, claiming she can win by a larger margin in a general election than Trump can. She argued Republicans voters are "tired" of the former president's personal baggage and controversy.

"We need to make sure we have a new conservative leader ... we want to win across the board," she said.
