New York Lawmakers To Introduce Expulsion Resolution Against Rep. George Santos
The resolution comes a day after Santos was charged with 23 counts in a superseding indictment
Republican New York lawmakers plan to introduce an expulsion resolution Wednesday to oust Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., from Congress as he faces a litany of criminal charges.
Santos' fellow New York Reps. Anthony D'Esposito, Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Nick Langworthy and Brandon Williams say they plan to co-sponsor the legislation.
The resolution comes a day after prosecutors charged Santos with 23 counts in a superseding indictment alleging identify theft, wire fraud, money laundering, theft and other crimes. The New York representative was originally charged with 13 counts in May and has denied wrongdoing.
“If they want to be judge, jury and arbitrator of the whole goddamn thing, let them do it," Santos said to reporters Wednesday morning.
An expulsion resolution would require a two-thirds majority of lawmakers to pass. With no Speaker of the House decided, it remains unclear when lawmakers might consider a resolution.
