MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Friday said that he told former CNN CEO Chris Licht not to hold the network's controversial town hall with former President Donald Trump.

"[Y]ou go back to that CNN town hall meeting and I’ll just say, Chris Licht called me a week beforehand, said, 'What should I do?' " Scarborough said on his Morning Joe morning show. "I said, 'Don’t do it.' And he said, 'But if I have to do it, what do I do?' I said, 'Ask him one question.' "

Scarborough's recommended question was: "Did Joe Biden win the election?"

"You don't go in trying to prove 12 things, you go in trying to prove one," said Scarborough. "You have to stay on it, you have to make him uncomfortable."

Licht was fired from his position as chairman and CEO of CNN in June after attempting to remake the network as a politically centrist outlet.

His controversial decision to hold a town hall with Trump is thought to have played a role in the network leadership's dissatisfaction with him.
