Miami Mayor Francis Suarez filed paperwork to run for president Wednesday, becoming the latest Republican to join the 2024 field.

Suarez, who has served as mayor of Miami since 2017, had been hinting at a White House run for months. He is scheduled to speak at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in California on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, the pro-Suarez super PAC SOS America released a video highlighting his actions as mayor and attacking President Joe Biden.

Suarez is the third Florida resident, alongside former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, and the first Hispanic candidate to enter the race.

Suarez, 45, will have his work cut out for him in the Republican primary. He is not well-known outside of his home city and has not registered in early polls of the race, if his name was even included. Trump is well ahead of the GOP field in most surveys, with DeSantis running a distant second.

Rep. Carlos Giménez (R-Fla.), the former Miami-Dade mayor who has endorsed Trump, dismissed Suarez's chances shortly after he filed his paperwork.

"The truth is that Francis Suarez is a fraud and has zero chance of winning the Republican nomination!" Giménez tweeted.
