Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters Tuesday that he does not view himself as responsible for the behavior of other Republicans after a day filled with several heated exchanges on Capitol Hill.

"It's very difficult to control the behavior of everybody who's in the building," McConnell said. "I don't view that as my responsibility ... that's something that the Capitol Police have to deal with."

The minority leader's comments came after a chaotic day in Congress, during which Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., had to verbally restrain Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., after the Republican senator challenged Teamsters President Sean O'Brien to a physical fistfight during a Senate hearing.

In the House, Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., accused former Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., of intentionally elbowing him after a GOP conference meeting and, later in the day, GOP Oversight Chairman James Comer, Ky., told Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., that he "looks like a smurf" during a heated exchange in a House hearing.
