McCarthy to Gaetz On Ousting Him From Speakership: ‘Bring It On’

McCarthy said Gaetz's promise to oust him is 'personal'

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Rep. Matt Gaetz's promise that he would move to oust the Republican leader this week is "personal."

"He's more concerned with doing TV interviews than doing something," McCarthy said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday. "Bring it on."

The California Republican dismissed Gaetz's comments as "nothing new," adding that he believes he would survive a vote.

McCarthy made the comments after Gaetz said in an interview Sunday morning that he would file a motion to vacate the office of the speaker this week after the House Speaker worked with Democrats to pass a stopgap funding measure and narrowly avoid a government shutdown.

As lawmakers work to negotiate funding measures over the next 45 days, McCarthy said he plans to prioritize border security even as he keeps his promise to continue aid to Ukraine.

"The priority for me is America and our borders," McCarthy said. "We have to find a way that we can do this together."
