McCarthy Hits Gaetz Over Filing Complaint: ‘Ethics Is a Good Place for Gaetz to Be’

Former Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday brushed off news that Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., filed ethics complaints against him after reports that the California representative elbowed Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.

"Oh good," McCarthy said. "I think Ethics is a good place for Gaetz to be."

The Florida representative has faced his own ethics investigation over accusations that he engaged in sexual misconduct, drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor and other allegations.

Tensions between Gaetz and McCarthy also persist after the Florida lawmaker led the effort to oust the former speaker from his job in October. McCarthy has said Gaetz's problem with him was "personal."
