Marjorie Taylor Greene Sends Letter Pressing GOP to Back Tlaib Censure: ‘Come Together to Do What Is Right’

In response to the censure resolution of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Democrats have launched an effort to censure Greene

Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on Monday wrote a letter to fellow House Republicans pressing them to vote in favor of her resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.

Greene accused Tlaib of "blatant antisemitic and evil rhetoric" as the war between Israel and Hamas continues.

"Among our responsibilities is our duty to defend America's interests and to hold politicians accountable for engaging in anti-American activities," Greene wrote in a Dear Colleague letter. "One such politician is Rashida Taib of
Michigan, whose antisemitic comments have been denounced countless times by Republicans and Democrats alike. Since the war in Gaza began earlier this month, Tlaib has espoused talking points used by terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. She has advocated for pro-Hamas riots across the country, making American Jews fear for their lives, and signaling to Israel that America does not support them in their fight against evil."

Tlaib is the only Palestinian American member of Congress and has faced backlash from members of both parties for calling for a ceasefire in the war and for her display of a Palestine flag outside of her office.

"But I do hope that our Republican majonty can come together to do
what is right. The Constitution offers us a pathway to hold each other accountable for our actions, and Rashida Tlaib must be held to account," Greene said. "This is a entical moment for our party's values and principles. We need to show our voters and our allies that standing up for them is of paramount importance. Supporting my censure resolution of Rashida Tlaib is not just a matter of political necessity but a moral and ethical imperative."

Greene has also accused Tlaib of inciting a "pro-Hamas insurrection" at the Capitol on Oct. 18. The protest, however, was not hosted by Tlaib, but a Pro-Palestine group called Jewish Voice for Peace and Tlaib spoke at the demonstration. Hundreds of protestors were arrested by Capitol Police because demonstrations are prohibited in the Capitol Rotunda where it took place.

In response to the censure resolution of Tlaib, Democrats have launched an effort to censure Greene. The effort is led by Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., who says there is "no place for anti-semitic, Islamophobic, anti-LGBTQ, racist rhetoric and conspiracy theories in the House of Representatives."

Greene has accused Democrats of perpetuating a "litany of lies" to censure her in order to "protect their terrorist-sympathizing colleague."
