Longtime Rep. Steny Hoyer to Seek Reelection for 23rd Term in Congress
Hoyer turns 85 in June
Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., on Monday announced that he is running for a 23rd term in the House of Representatives in 2024, saying in a statement that he believes he has "more work to complete" for his district.
"I am blessed to have the good health, strength, and enduring passion necessary to continue serving my constituents at this decisive moment for Maryland and America," the former House Majority Leader, who turns 85 in June, said in a statement shared by Axios.
Hoyer represents a safe Democrat district, winning his last election by a margin of 32%. Cook Political Report rates the district as "Solid Democrat."
Hoyer cited the unproductive nature of the current session of Congress as one of the reasons he decided to run for office once more and said that he looks "forward to returning to my work on the Appropriations Committee."
