John Bolton, the ex-National Security Advisor to former President Donald Trump, says that the former president could afford to "spend a little of his own money" on his legal defense.

"People who worry about whether poor Donald Trump’s going to have enough money for campaign purposes and legal bills," Bolton, a frequent Trump critic, said during an interview with NewsNation on Monday. "He’s a gazillionaire, ask him, he’ll tell you frequently. He can spend a little of his own money."

Trump has faced recent criticism for not providing financial help to those charged alongside him as co-conspirators in his Georgia election interference indictment.

Ex-Trump attorney Michael Cohen recently called the former president an "idiot" for not paying his co-defendants' legal bills. And attorney Jenna Ellis, who has been charged in the Georgia indictment posted earlier this month on X, formerly known as Twitter, questioning why she and the others have had no financial support from super PAC MAGA Inc. in their defense.

Within the last three weeks, the Trump campaign has reportedly raised around $20 million and last weekend, Trump confirmed that he raised $7.1 million since surrendering at the Fulton County Jail and almost immediately donning campaign merchandise with his mug shot.

"I think it’s very disturbing that in what I always thought of as a political party based on principle, that so many people seem attracted to an individual almost regardless of what he does," Bolton said of Trump referring to the former president's recent indictments.
