Jack Smith Orders Transcripts in Eastman’s Disbarment Trial in Continuing Probe

It is still unclear whether the special counsel is contemplating more charges against Eastman

Special Counsel Jack Smith's office has ordered the transcripts from the disbarment trial of former Donald Trump attorney John Eastman, as reported by Politico, indicating Smith's team may be far from finished investigating the lawyer.

Earlier in September, Eastman pleaded not guilty to racketeering and other charges related to assisting Trump in his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Recently, Eastman's name was rumored to be among a list of people whose plea deals in the Georgia case are off the table.

Eastman is also one of six alleged co-conspirators in Smith's indictment against Trump in the District of Columbia, but he has not been charged in that case.

Eastman authored a six-point plan to keep Trump in the White House even though he had lost the presidential election. In the plan, Vice President Mike Pence was to reject the certification of President Joe Biden's victory — which Pence refused to do.

Eastman is currently awaiting the decision in his disbarment hearing on whether or not he'll be stripped of his California law license.

In the documents that Smith's paralegal recently ordered, preliminary findings show that Eastman violated professional ethics standards while assisting Trump in 2020.

It is still unclear whether Smith is contemplating other charges against Eastman.

Eastman's attorney Charles Burnham told Politico: “Professor Eastman invites the Special Counsel and anyone else who is interested to examine the records of his case before the California State Bar.”

The "evidence showed that his actions and legal assessments were well grounded in both fact and law, and that he definitively and faithfully complied with his duty of zealous advocacy for his client and of candor to courts, and that he honored his oath to the Constitution," he continued.
