Indiana Advances Bill to Count AI Nudity in Revenge Porn Statute
There have been some concerns over the legislation's wording in relation to the First Amendment, the Indiana Public Defender Commission reportedly cautioned
The Indiana House Courts and Criminal Codes committee on Wednesday voted unanimously, 10-0, to move forward with a measure to add computer-generated nude pictures of real people to Indiana’s revenge pornography statute, according to a report in The Indiana Capital Chronicle.
As it stands, Indiana's revenge pornography statute only criminalizes intimate images and videos that are nonconsensually distributed by the people who snapped the pictures or shot the clips, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle.
With this new measure, it would expand to include artificially inseminated images.
There have been some concerns over the legislation's wording in relation to the First Amendment, the Indiana Public Defender Commission reportedly cautioned. State Rep. Sharon Negele, R, who authored the bill, vowed to work on their wording to ensure it is not overboard.
Staff attorney Joel Wieneke reportedly recommended including language indicating that the images must be representative of real people in order for it to be considered a crime.
