‘I Don’t Know His Strategy’: Major DeSantis Donor Still Won’t Fund Presidential Campaign

'It’s not clear to me what voter base he is intending to appeal to,' Griffin told CNBC

Billionaire GOP donor Ken Griffin, the CEO of Citadel who previously supported Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' gubernatorial campaign, said he is still unsure about who to support in the 2024 presidential race, adding that he does not know DeSantis' strategy.

“I don’t know his strategy,” Griffin said in an interview with CNBC set to air on Monday. “It’s not clear to me what voter base he is intending to appeal to.”

In 2022, before DeSantis announced his bid for president, Griffin told Politico the "country would be well-served by him as president.” But, the megadonor has not been so quick to back the Florida governor in his bid for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Griffin donated more than $100 million to GOP candidates in the 2022 midterm cycle, according to CNBC.

While he said his first term as Florida governor was "phenomenal," the billionaire donor said this “hasn’t been how this last few months have played out,” and was critical of DeSantis' battle with Disney, calling it "pointless."

“I’m still on the sidelines as to who to support in this election cycle,” Griffin said. “Look, if I had my dream, we’d have a great Republican candidate in the primary who was younger, of a different generation, with a different tone for America. And we’d have a younger person on the Democratic side in the primary, who would have his message for our country.”

Trump has continually polled well ahead of the Republican primary field with DeSantis seeing his numbers drop as other candidates have moved closer to second place.
