House to Vote on Motion Tabling Gaetz Attempt to Oust Speaker McCarthy

If the motion is tabled, no further action will be taken on the measure

The Office of House Majority Leader Tom Emmer, R-Minn., on Tuesday put out a statement saying that there would be a vote on tabling Rep. Matt Gaetz's, R-Fla., motion to vacate House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's, R-Calif., leadership post at 1:30 p.m.

Emmer has been mentioned by some Republicans as a possible replacement for McCarthy if the motion to vacate is successful, however, the Minnesota lawmaker has rejected the notion and backed McCarthy in response.

If the motion is tabled, no further action will be taken on the measure.

However, if the House rejects the resolution to table the matter, they will move forward with voting on whether or not to oust the speaker, opting for a temporary replacement.

McCarthy is expected to deliver remarks on the House floor Tuesday afternoon defending his leadership job.
