GOP presidential hopeful and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley says that although she believes former President Donald Trump was “the right president at the right time," it is now time for a new generation to lead the country.

“I agree with a lot of his policies, but the truth is, rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him,” Haley said of Trump. “We have too much division in this country, and too many threats around the world to be sitting in chaos once again.”

While campaigning in her home state of South Carolina on Monday, Haley drew in one of the largest crowds of her primary run with about 2,500 people attending the event hosted at the University of South Carolina, according to the Associated Press.

Recently, Haley has seen an uptick in the polls, and her campaign is seeking to close the gap between her and Trump ahead of the first-in-the-nation Caucuses in Iowa and early primary states like South Carolina.

Trump also made his way to the Palmetto State over the weekend where he attended a rivalry football game to watch the South Carolina Gamecocks face-off against Haley's alma mater team, the Clemson Tigers, who won the game.

“How did it work out for the Gamecocks having Trump show up?” Haley said riffing off of Trump's appearance at the game, according to the Associated Press. “Not so lucky for the Gamecocks, just sayin’ — go Tigers.”
