GOP Sen. Rick Scott Says He Thinks Congress Will Avoid a Shutdown

Congress has until September 30 to pass a budget and avoid a shutdown

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said he believes Congress will reach an agreement to fund the government and avoid a shutdown before the fiscal year ends in ten days.

”We ought to stop this idea that we’re going to see government shutdowns,” Scott said while on CNBC Tuesday. “ We should never see government shutdowns again.”

Scott said that the Senate is crafting a resolution to avoid the possibility of government shutdown in the future, while the Freedom Caucus in the House is working on a budget agreement.

The fiscal year for the government ends September 30, and not all share Scott's confidence that a shutdown will be avoided. On Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., said he thinks a shutdown is "very likely."
