Some House Republicans say they are considering bringing a motion to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., as the Florida lawmaker threatens to lead a push to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

House GOP members say that if an ongoing ethics investigation into Gaetz proves allegations of wrongdoing, they could use the findings as a chance to remove him, according to reports from Fox News and CNN.

"No one can stand him at this point," one House Republican told Fox News.

The Florida Republican appeared to respond to the news of fellow Republican considering ousting him on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where he posted a graphic of himself surrounded by guns.

A two-thirds vote would be required to oust Gaetz from the House of Representatives. He is being investigated by the House Ethics Committee on allegations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use or other misconduct.

Gaetz said he would introduce a procedural motion to oust McCarthy from leadership this week.

Gaetz said he would make the move after McCarthy relied on Democratic votes to pass a stopgap funding measure on Saturday and avoid a government shutdown.
