Garcia Introduces Bill to Prevent Enforcement of Federal Magic Mushroom Laws

The law would only apply to parts of the U.S. that have already decriminalized the drug

Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., will introduce a bill instructing federal law enforcement to not enforce federal laws outlawing 'magic mushrooms' in states that have decriminalized them.

The bill would "prohibit the use of Federal funds [to prevent] a State from implementing their own laws with respect to psilocybin,” according to his office.

Garcia's legislation is based on similar laws passed to prevent a conflict between federal marijuana laws and states that have legalized the drug.

“We’re taking the exact same language that was used for cannabis and we’re applying it to psilocybin,” Garcia told the Los Angeles Times.

Seven states have either decriminalized magic mushrooms to some degree or have cities or counties that have done so.
