Former US Ambassador to Israel: Hamas-Israel ‘Cycle Will Continue Unless The Core Issues Are Addressed’

Edward Djerejian, former U.S. ambassador to Israel under President Clinton, on Saturday said that conflict like the recent Hamas attacks in Israel "will continue unless the core issues are addressed."

Djerejian called Biden's statement showing strong support to Israel following the the attacks "very predictable" in an interview with NPR.

The former ambassador also called out the lack of negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, saying it contributed to a "framework of allowing the extremists like Hamas to gain advantages."

"And I'm sure there'll be whatever military support they wish to give to Israel at this time to bolster their capabilities," Djerejian said about the U.S. response. "But the important thing here is really the lack of a political horizon, [...]."
