Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., on Tuesday said he will not support a new Speaker unless they commit to reforming the motion to vacate after Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was ousted from the speakership.

"Nobody has my vote," Gimenez said in an interview with CNN. "I think the one-person motion to vacate, I think it's actually a little bit insane."

McCarthy agreed to change the process for a motion to vacate when he was elected speaker as a concession, ensuring that just one House member would be necessary to introduce the procedural motion. Gimenez said he thinks that threshold should be at least 50% of the majority party.

Gimenez added that he does not believe the eight Republicans who joined with Democrats to oust McCarthy from the speakership are "true Republicans."

"You have to compromise within the party itself because not all of us have the same point of view," Gimenez said.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., led the effort to remove McCarthy. The California Republican said Tuesday he does not plan to seek the speakership again, leaving House Republicans in turmoil as they scramble to determine who should take the role.
