Dianne Feinstein Remembered For Her Leadership And Friendship At Private Funeral Service
The service was held on the front steps of San Francisco City Hall
The late Sen. Dianne Feinstein was remembered by close friends and colleagues for her leadership and friendship at a private funeral service Thursday afternoon.
The service was held on the front steps of San Francisco City Hall and was closed to the public after her office cited “increased security.”
President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed all spoke at her memorial.
Vice President Harris recalled Feinstein’s warmth after she joined the Senate in 2017.
“She invited me to her Senate hideaway. There, with one hand, she presented me with a glass of California chardonnay, and with the other hand a binder full of her draft bills.”
Harris said as a public servant, Feinstein “had the courage to take on the many tough fights” even when faced with “fierce opposition,” “political peril,” and “especially when her work was in defense of the constitution and the security of the American people.”

Pelosi, who lived next door to Feinstein and worked closely with her as a representative from the same state, recalled “a woman so strategic and so strong, a lady so gentle, a trailblazing model and a mentor of generosity and sweetness.”
“Diane all your life who has challenged everyone to do our best. Now as we honor your leadership, celebrate your life, and express our sorrow in your passing, living up to your standard is quite a challenge.”
Feinstein, who died last week at the age of 80, served as one of California’s senator for more than 30 years. She became the first female mayor of San Francisco, her hometown, in 1978 and held the position for 10 years.
