Detroit Man Gets 15 Months Probation for Threats to Whitmer, Secretary of State
The man was sentenced by a mental health treatment court Tuesday
A Detroit man pleaded no contest to charges related to threatening Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and was sentenced to 15 months of probation by a mental health treatment court Tuesday.
The Associated Press reported that James Toepler was ordered not to contact either state official or their offices. He pleaded no contest to one charge of malicious use of telecommunications services in September, almost two years after he threatened Whitmer and Benson in a call to the police in June 2021.
Toepler will now report back to the court Nov. 1 to determine appropriate treatment.
