Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R, doesn't believe former President Donald Trump can win in 2024 if he's convicted of a crime, but he'd still support him.

On Thursday's Morning Joe, DeSantis was pressed on a GOP pledge he signed to support the eventual GOP nominee. DeSantis and other candidates signed the pledge, and the 2024 GOP hopeful said he'll stick by it.

He argued, however, that if Trump is convicted on some of the many charges he's facing, it'll be "fatal" to the GOP's 2024 chances.

"Do I think somebody under those circumstances could get elected president? The answer is no," DeSantis told Willie Geist. "That will not happen. I think Republican voters will understand that as we get closer to voting. But it would be fatal in a general election. I don't think the party should should nominate in that situation."

Trump's legal troubles include an upcoming D.C. trial related to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, as well as a racketeering case out of Georgia.

If he is the nominee though, DeSantis insisted multiple times he'll stand by his pledge.

"The reality is I signed it and that's what I did," he said.
