DeSantis Says He Backs Jordan in House Speaker Race

Presidential hopeful and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday said he backs Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, for Speaker on Wednesday as the Ohio Republican faces yet another floor vote on his candidacy for the role on Thursday.

“I was hoping that Jim Jordan would get elected,” DeSantis said in an interview with Newsmax. “He has my support. I think he could do a good job.”

DeSantis told House Republicans to "get their act together" after Jordan lost two floor votes this week. His difficult quest to become Speaker comes after Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., abandoned his bid after lacking votes on the floor.

“The drama’s not leading to any result,” DeSantis said. “It’s like they’re chickens with their heads cut off."

To become Speaker, Jordan will need at least 217 floor votes on Thursday.
