The Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday will meet to discuss the 2024 New Hampshire primary.

Proposed changes to the state's first-in-the-nation primary designation are up for debate by the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which oversees the process.

The rules committee intends to "continue its review of state 2024 National Convention Delegate Selection plans, including plans deferred at the last meeting," according to a release.

New Hampshire has typically been the first state to hold a primary, but with so few electoral votes at stake, some in the party have expressed they think it could have too much influence in an election cycle.

New Hampshire officials have persisted that their status as the first primary is written into state law, The Hill reports, but the DNC has said it will review all states' statuses.

Some in the Biden Administration are hoping to schedule the New Hampshire primary after South Carolina's in February, according to The Hill.

A top panel of the DNC is scheduled to vote on a plan Thursday to extend the state's deadline in the hopes they will comply with the national party's demand.

Democrats could pursue a write-in campaign and have discussed doing so, but nothing of the sort has been set in motion.

In order to make the New Hampshire primary ballot, a candidate must file paperwork to the secretary of state by Oct. 27.
