Democrats in Virginia currently hold a narrow but meaningful advantage in fundraising numbers ahead of key state elections later this year, according to reports from the Virginia Public Access Project.

Democratic House candidates have raised over $8.8 million, while Republicans are following closely behind at $8.3 million. Similarly, in the state Senate, Democrats have raised about $6.4 million while Republicans have reported a little over $6 million.

All 140 seats in the state General Assembly will be on the ballot in November.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, donated $1 million earlier this month, which went to both House and Senate campaigns.

The key battleground elections have seen a number of issues come to the forefront, but one of the driving issues, according to polls, has been abortion.

The state has not enacted the same major restrictions as some other states following the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade, despite efforts from Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who has pushed for a 15-week ban.

"It is the first time a legislature is on the ballot post-Dobbs. The stakes could not be clearer: Does Virginia lose access to abortion, or not?" DLCC president Heather Williams said.

Youngkin is hosting a GOP megadonors event on Tuesday and Wednesday in Virginia Beach.
