Dem Rep. Raskin Ridicules House GOP for ‘Zero Percent Compliance’ With Jan. 6 Subpoenas While Suggesting Hunter Biden Contempt

'If they don't want to comply with the subpoena, they won't and yet they would now hold other witnesses like Hunter Biden to a standard they won't accept for themselves,' Raskin said

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on Wednesday slammed Republicans during a House Oversight Committee hearing for recommending contempt of Congress for first son Hunter Biden, when House GOP members had a "zero percent [subpoena] compliance" record when it came to testifying before the now-defunct January 6 committee.

"If they don't want to comply with the subpoena, they won't and yet they would now hold other witnesses like Hunter Biden to a standard they won't accept for themselves," Raskin said while sitting right next to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. "That's a remarkable thing."

Raskin went on to accuse House Republicans like Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., and Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., of avoiding subpoenas to appear before Congress and share their knowledge of the events leading up to and on the day of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

On a poster board held up by an aide behind Raskin, the lawmaker displayed a quote from the chairman, using his own words against him, that read, "We're, we're in the downhill phase of the investigation now because we have so many documents and, and we can bring these people in for depositions or committee hearings, whichever they choose ... ."

The congressman defended Biden, son of President Joe Biden, saying he did respond to the committee's deposition requests, agreeing to appear as long as it was for public testimony and not behind closed doors, which the committee rejected.

Biden was present for parts of the hearing before he made a hasty exit during remarks from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who called him a coward.
