The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing Alabama to enforce its ban on transgender-affirming care for minors while the law faces litigation.

The decision issued Thursday overturns a preliminary stay from a lower court.

The law, passed in 2022, was challenged by a group of transgender minors and their parents. It has faced a legal back and forth as various courts have imposed injunctions and then lifted those injunctions. The law bans puberty blockers, hormone therapies and gender-affirming operations for trans minors.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall told The Hill that the decision is a"significant victory for our country, for children, and for common sense."

Alabama’s "transgender healthcare ban will harm thousands of transgender adolescents across the state and will put parents in the excruciating position of not being able to get the medical care their children need to thrive," lawyers for the plaintiffs said in a statement to The Hill.
