Conservative Pundits React to Trump Indictment: ‘The Police State’s Here’
Fox News host Mark Levin: 'If the Department of Justice gets its way, [Trump] will die in federal prison'
Conservative media pundits are up in arms over the indictment of former President Donald Trump, declaring the act an “insurrection” and a sign that the “police state” is here.
Trump’s lawyer Jim Trusty revealed Thursday night the former president is facing a seven count indictment over his handling of classified documents after leaving the White House. He is expected to arrive in Miami court on Tuesday.
As the news broke, Trump supporters in the media blasted the Department of Justice and described a coordinated, politically motivated effort to thwart Trump’s 2024 campaign.
“If the Department of Justice gets its way, [Trump] will die in federal prison,” Fox News host Mark Levin told Sean Hannity on Thursday evening. “Just by one of these counts – conspiracy to obstruct justice, which has a 20-year maximum sentence. This is a disgusting, disgusting mark on American history, for the future to come by these bandits in the White House, by the Democrat party. They don’t play fair anymore.”
Levin continued his lengthy analysis by accusing Attorney General Merrick Garland of being a “mob lawyer” promoting “one party rule.” He also declared this act to be the real insurrection.
“He made the decision to indict the former president and they made the decision to interfere in this election! You wanna talk about an insurrection?! This! Is! An insurrection! And that’s exactly what’s going on here!” he yelled.
Podcaster and former Fox News host Dan Bongino declared on Newsmax that the “police state is here.”

“The police state’s here now,” the former Secret Service agent said. “The idea that you live in a constitutional republic — take it, wipe your rump with it, and flush it down the toilet bowl because that's gone.”
In an interview with former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake on Newsmax, Sebastian Gorka asked if the “left” guaranteed Trump as the Republican nominee thanks to the indictment.
“I feel like he was the nominee before, but I agree with you,” Lake said, going on to call on other 2024 Republican nominee hopefuls to suspend their campaigns to show support for Trump.
Gorka, a former Trump administration official, called Lake’s suspension suggestion “extraordinary.”
On One America News, Alan Dershowitz called the indictment an attempt “to take the vote away from the voters,” dubbing it election interference.
“I have an absolute constitutional right to vote against Trump for the third time, and I don’t want anybody to deny me that right by indicting him falsely,” he said.
Real America's Voice host Grant Stinchfield suggested Trump can "pardon himself" if he's elected and perform the job of president from behind bars.
"If there should be any charges at all, it should be those running the prosecution," he said. "They have been so far out of line every step of the way here, concocting charges against him trying to bribe witnesses. You name it, Mr. President stand strong, we got your back."
