The percentage of Americans who approve of the job Congress is doing has dropped to 13%, according to a new poll from Gallup, the lowest it has been since November 2017.

The approval rating dropped four points in the last month, during which time Congress saw the ousting of a Speaker and a weeks-long struggle to find a new one, finally electing Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., three weeks after Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was removed from the post.

The decline in approval is largely driven by Democrats, who saw a 12 point drop in approval from 22% to 10% from September to October. Republicans approval of Congress remained steady at 8% in both months. Independents also remained unchanged from September to October, with 19% approving both months.

This poll was completed before Johnson was selected as speaker.
