Nearly Two-Thirds of American Adults Concerned About Climate Change in Their Communities: Poll

Over 70% want to see greenhouse gas emissions cut by 2030, a goal set by President Joe Biden's administration

Over half of Americans are concerned with climate change in their community and the effects of extreme weather, according to a new survey.

A CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that 63% said they are either somewhat or very concerned about climate change effects in their communities. Less than 40% said they are either not too worried or completely unconcerned.

Nearly 60% of respondents also said they are concerned about the effects of extreme weather, while 42% are not worrying.

Just over 40% also said they experienced "extreme weather" in their area, and nearly 80% of those respondents believe that extreme weather was caused by climate change.

The poll found that most want the government to take steps to cut greenhouse emissions by 2030, a stated goal of President Joe Biden's administration.

Over 70% said they support the plan. Among Democrats, 95% support such an effort. The backing drops to 50% among Republicans and 76% among Independents.
