Chris Christie Warns Against ‘Fool’s Errand’ No Labels Third Party Run: ‘They Don’t Know Who They’re Going to Hurt’
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt meanwhile told the former New Jersey governor he hopes the third party effort performs well
GOP presidential hopeful and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not a fan of No Labels, despite Republicans arguing the third-party effort could hurt Democrats in 2024.
In a Thursday interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Christie was asked about the No Labels effort by Hewitt, who was far more supportive.
"Governor, I want No Labels to prosper," Hewitt said. "I want them to get out there and raise a lot of money and find a couple of Democrat dummies to run on that and drain votes from Democrats, because I’m a Republican. What do you think about No Labels?"
Christie called it a "fool's errand" and suggested the effort could hurt more than Democrats.
"I think it’s a fool's errand. I really do," he said. "And I think that they shoot with a shotgun. They don’t know who they’re going to hurt, and depending on who they nominate, and not something that I would ever care to be involved in."
No Labels has won ballot access in multiple states thus far and could potentially run a 2024 independent candidate, with centrist candidates like Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., being rumored as possible candidates.
No Labels CEO and founder Nancy Jacobson previously told NBC News in July that the group would drop their effort if it was helping potential GOP nominee Donald Trump.
