Chris Christie Pays New Hampshire Primary Ballot Fee in Cash, Takes Shot at Menendez

Christie joked that the $1,000 in cash he used to pay his primary ballot fee in New Hampshire was 'not from Menendez's jacket'

Republican presidential hopeful and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie paid his $1,000 fee to get on the primary ballot in New Hampshire in cash on Thursday and also took the chance to take a shot at Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., following the senator's bribery indictment.

“We’re from New Jersey, we give cash," Christie said.

“But don’t worry, it’s not from Bob Menendez’s jacket," Christie joked of his fellow statesman.

Menendez and his wife were indicted last month on bribery charges where they have been accused of accepting bribes in the form of cash, gold bars, mortgage payments, and luxury vehicles, among other things. Menendez reportedly abused his legislative power and influence to benefit three businessmen and the Republic of Egypt between 2018 and 2022.

One image in the indictment shows a jacket with "Senator Menendez" embroiled on the front and $100 bills stacked on top of it, which Christie referred to in his joke.

Since his indictment, which he pleaded not guilty to, members of Congress and the Senate have called on the lawmaker to resign from his post, although he refuses.
