Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., says that former President Donald Trump, is "projecting" when he refers to President Joe Biden as a threat to American democracy.

During an interview CNN's Anderson Cooper while promoting her new book “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning” on Tuesday, Cooper asked Cheney, a frequent critic of Trump, on what she would say to Republicans who agree with Trump's statements Cheney responding saying that she believe an "overwhelming majority" of the GOP know Trump's claims are "disinformation."

“That’s been sort of Trump’s … method of operating. He knows that,” Cheney, who voted to impeach the former president, said. “It is a real threat to his political success if people recognize that, that he himself is trying to unravel democracy and so I think he’s projecting. He’s trying to turn that thread around, but I don’t think it’ll work.”

Over the weekend while he was campaigning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Trump said that Biden is "not the defender of American democracy," but "the destroyer of American democracy." He claimed that the American dream is "dead" while Biden remains in the Oval Office.

Following Trump's comments, a number of media outlets including the Washington Post and the New York Times put out a red alarm, warning that a second Trump presidency could teeter on a dictatorship.

At a Fox News Town Hall in Davenport, Iowa, on Tuesday night, host Sean Hannity asked the president if he could promise to "never abuse power as retribution against anybody?"

Trump responded, "Except for day one." Adding, "I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill."
