Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday took aim at the GOP House impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden during an interview with CNN's Dana Bash after she asked him if he saw "anything inappropriate" about Biden's interactions with his son over his foreign business dealings.

"I don't know enough about the details of that, I mean, I've seen a little of that," Newsom replied, further discussing the president's relationship with his son Hunter Biden. "If that's the new criteria, there are a lot of folks in a lot of industries, not just in politics, where people have family members and relationships and they're trying to parlay and get a little influence and benefit in that respect, that's hardly unique. I don't love that, anymore than you, or I imagine other people love that. We want to see a lot less of that."

Newsom continued: "But an impeachment inquiry? Give me a break. This is student government."

The Golden State governor went on to criticize the threats of a government shutdown pending disagreements over government spending bills in the House and the Senate, calling the threats a "joke" and a "perversity."

"This a perversity with the Founding Fathers ever conceived of and imagined," Newsome said. "So, if that's the best they can do, give me a break."
