Bomb Threats Lead to Lockdowns at More Than a Half-Dozen State Capitols - The Messenger

Bomb threats were emailed to employees in over half a dozen state Capitols around the country, causing them to go on lockdowns.

So far, reports of such threats have come from Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi and Montana. Police in all these states have not found evidence of explosives in the Capitols.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the threat was sent to the Secretary of State's office, and while local police started investigating, they were aware of similar threats in other states.

A spokesperson for the Kentucky of Secretary of State’s office told CNN the email was "sent to several (Secretaries of State) and state offices across the country" — similar threats were also emailed to a Capitol employee in Georgia.

In Mississippi, the state's Department of Public Safety released a statement saying they were notified "of suspicious activity in and around the Mississippi State Capitol."

In response, the FBI issued a statement clarifying they are aware of the threats emailed to state Capitols, and that there is no indication they are credible. The statement did not address whether they are all connected or not.

“The FBI takes hoax threats very seriously because it puts innocent people at risk. While we have no information to indicate a specific and credible threat, we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to gather, share, and act upon threat information as it comes to our attention. We urge the public to remain vigilant, and report any and all suspicious activity and/or individuals to law enforcement immediately.”
