Blinken Heads Back to Israel as War Escalates
Blinken's visit to Israel and Jordan comes amid rising tension between both countries
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will depart Washington, D.C., on Thursday to head back to Israel and visit Jordan on Friday.
The trip marks Blinken's second visit to Israel this month and follows a trip by President Joe Biden in late October. Biden also had a visit to Jordan planned to meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan and other leaders, but that was canceled.
Blinken's visit also comes amid rising tension between Jordan and Israel. Jordan recalled its ambassador on Wednesday and said it would prohibit Israel's ambassador to Jordan from returning to the country until the Hamas-Israel conflict is over.
Israel has stepped up its ground incursions and airstrikes in the Gaza Strip as it prepares for a full-scale ground invasion, prompting mass evacuations.
