President Joe Biden plans to deliver a speech on threats to democracy in the coming weeks, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to The Messenger on Wednesday.

The New York Times reported the speech is scheduled to take place after the next Republican presidential debate on Sept. 27.

The White House declined to comment on the planned speech.

Biden, now running for reelection, made protecting democracy a pillar of his 2020 campaign against then-President Donald Trump. Biden last delivered an address dedicated to the topic in September of last year in Philadelhia ahead of the midterm elections.
