Biden To Call ‘MAGA Movement’ Dangerous in Speech Honoring John McCain, Warning of Democracy Threats
The president's Arizona speech warning about 'election denialism' and 'political violence' follows the second GOP primary debate
President Joe Biden on Thursday is following up the second GOP primary debate by delivering remarks on what he calls the dangers that the "MAGA movement" pose to American democracy.
The president will speak in Arizona the day after the debate in California at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
"From Gettysburg to my Inaugural Address, to the anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, to Independence Hall in Philadelphia, and Union Station in Washington, I’ve spoken about the danger of election denialism and political violence and the battle for the soul of America," Biden will say, according to a release from the White House.
Biden's visit to Arizona is in part to honor the late John McCain, a longtime Republican Senator that the president offers praise.
"I have come to honor the McCain Institute and Library because they are home to a proud Republican who put country first," Biden wrote. "Our commitment should be no less because democracy should unite all Americans – regardless of political affiliation."
He points to the former President Donald Trump's signature "MAGA movement" as dangerous to democracy. Trump skipped the second primary debate and instead spoke in Detroit.

"But there is no question that today’s Republican Party is driven and intimidated by MAGA extremists. Their extreme agenda, if carried out, would fundamentally alter the institutions of American Democracy as we know it."
