President Joe Biden on Friday will deliver remarks on the ongoing contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers Union and the Big 3 auto companies: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Stellantis Jeep, according to the White House.

About 13,000 auto workers stopped working and went on strike Friday to protest after their leaders could not meet there contract demands with the three big automakers in Detroit, making it the first time in 88-years for the union to walkout on all three companies as their contacts expired at midnight on Thursday.

The union's strike is formed on the basis of workers seeking higher wages that match inflation rates, a reestablished pension benefits plan, and the end of tiered wages.

At the beginning of the month, Biden said he was "not worried" about an autoworkers strike.

"I'm not worried about a strike," Biden told reporters as he landed in Philadelphia Labor Day weekend. "I don't think it's going to happen."

Members of the United Auto Workers union began picketing on Friday at a General Motors assembly plant in Wentzville, Mo.; a Ford factory in Wayne, Mich., near Detroit; and a Stellantis Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio, according to the Associated Press.
