Biden Officials Grilled Over Space Command Headquarters Decision
The decision to keep the Space Command HQ in Colorado instead of moving it to Alabama as planned earned rebukes from Congress
Members of the House Armed Services Committee sparred with Biden administration members over their handling of the U.S. Space Command during a hearing Thursday.
The Biden administration recently decided to keep the Space Command headquarters in Colorado permanently instead of moving it to Alabama as initially planned. That decision came as Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville has been blocking military promotions for much of the year.
Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., accused President Joe Biden of making "a political decision over a competency decision" in prioritizing Colorado over Alabama.
Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., echoed the sentiment, saying: "There is no reason to justify what’s happened other than my view, political considerations."
Space Command head Gen. James Dickinson defended the decision as being one of practical necessity.
"In my view, selecting Colorado Springs as the permanent basing location for U.S. Space Command best sustains our human capital investments and ultimately maintains our readiness at the highest levels while imposing the least disruption," said Dickinson.
