Biden Family Bank Records Next To Be Requested by Republicans
'We're going to start with the president's son and his brother's bank records,' House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said
House Republicans who just launched an official impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden are set to ask for the bank records of Hunter Biden and James Biden, the president's son and brother, a top House investigator said.
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee who is leading the impeachment probe, told reporters that the next step in his investigation is to request the bank records from Biden's family members.
"We're going to start with the president's son and his brother's bank records," Comer said.
Republicans have focused on Biden's connection to his family's overseas business deals, including an allegation that he is implicated in a bribery scheme in Ukraine, where his son sat on the board of the energy company Burisma. The GOP has been unable to uncover any evidence that the president benefited from his family's businesses or that he was involved in a bribery scheme.
But Comer said the impeachment inquiry, which was opened by Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday would give the party another tool to pull information from the Biden family — information they have yet to request.
When pressed on why Republicans decided to open the probe before even requesting the material from the White House or the Bidens, Comer said the impeachment investigation "sends a clear message that we're serious about it."
