Biden Considering Asking Congress for $100 Billion Aid Package for Israel and Ukraine: Reports
The potential package could also include border security funding and aid to Taiwan
White House officials are considering asking Congress for a $100 billion spending package that would provide aid to Israel and Ukraine, as well as funding for border security and assistance for Taiwan, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.
Bloomberg first reported the potential supplemental funding request, which is not set in stone. President Joe Biden's White House could reportedly formally send the request to lawmakers on Capitol Hill as soon as this week.
The reports come as Biden prepares to visit Israel on Wednesday amid its ongoing conflict with the militant group Hamas.
Aid to Ukraine was a point of contention among Republican lawmakers in discussions ahead of the government funding deadline in September after Biden requested an additional $24 billion in aid to the country as it fends off Russian forces.
House Republicans are also scrambling to elect a speaker, without whom lawmakers cannot currently vote on legislation.
