Biden Applauds Actors’ Strike Agreement: ‘Collective Bargaining Works’
The president praised both sides for negotiating with one another and reaching a tentative agreement
President Joe Biden praised the tentative deal reached between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers in a statement released Thursday.
"Collective bargaining works," Biden said. "SAG-AFTRA members will have the final say on this contract, but the sacrifices they’ve made will ensure a better future for them, their families, and all workers who deserve a fair share of the value they helped create."
The president praised both sides for working together to reach the agreement, which brings an end to a 118-day strike. Among actors' demands were better compensation, protections against artificial intelligence and changing the streaming residuals structure.
Biden also affirmed the role of collective bargaining, which he said strengthens businesses and permits workers to secure better pay and benefits.
"Over the last three years, workers have won historic victories that ensure record pay, record benefits and an economy that grows from the middle out and bottom up," Biden said.
