AOC Lashes Out Over Israeli Evacuation Order: ‘Humanity is at Stake … We Must Halt This’
Ocasio-Cortez has also called for a ceasefire in the region, calling on Israel to 'end the cycle' of violence following the attack by Hamas on Saturday
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, on Thursday said that it was impossible for the people of Gaza to follow an Israeli order to evacuate, signaling an impending ground offensive from the country.
"Any person can see that ordering 1+ million people to move in under 24 hours is not possible. It is unacceptable," Ocasio-Cortez said in a post on X. "The UN has already deemed the order 'impossible' without 'devastating humanitarian consequences.' Humanity is at stake. Nearly half are children. We must halt this"
Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the United Nations, called the evacuation order of nearly half the territory's population, "impossible” without “devastating humanitarian consequences,” which Ocasio-Cortez repeated in her post.
Ocasio-Cortez has also called for a ceasefire in the region, calling on Israel to "end the cycle" of violence following the attack by Hamas on Saturday.
"I believe deeply that the majority of people of all kinds do not want to see Gaza leveled and innocents killed, & that they feel and hold the pain of Israeli families destroyed," she posted to X on Thursday. "We must build on our solidarity and common humanity to stop an atrocity in the making. End the cycle."

So far, Israel has counterattacked Hamas using airstrikes, but a ground assault is expected. Since the Hamas surprise attack killed over 1,300 Israelis, Israel's responding attacks have killed more than 1,530 people in Gaza.
Politicians and government officials, like Ocasio-Cortez, have warned onlookers to the Hamas-Israel war to be cautious of the information out there as much of the violence is brutal to view and there is often a mass spread of misinformation in times like these.
"The level of misinformation in all directions at this moment is incredibly high, especially on this platform," the congresswoman said in another social media post. "If you see a claim, photo, or video that triggers a strong emotional reaction, take a moment to pause and check for veracity/confirmation from multiple sources."
Ocasio-Cortez's call for a "ceasefire" was met by backlash from fellow members of Congress who said Israel has a right to defend itself.
