Amalija Knavs, Mother of Melania Trump, Dies at 78

Former First Lady Melania Trump on Tuesday announced that her mother, Amalija Knavs, has died. She was 78 years old.

"Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity," the former first lady said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law," she continued. "We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy."

The announcement comes after the former first lady appeared to be absent from several Trump family holiday gatherings. Former President Donald Trump said at a New Year's Eve celebration that Melania missed the occasion because she was tending to her mother, who he said was "very ill."
