The American Civil Liberties Union is asking the Supreme Court to hear a case concerning a Tennessee law that prohibits gender-affirming medical care for transgender people under the age of 18.

"Over the past few months this vicious law has already had a disastrous impact in homes and communities across Tennessee,” Tennessee ACLU staff attorney Lucas Cameron-Vaughn said in a statement. "Families are losing access to much-needed medical care that has allowed their children to flourish."

The group is seeking to appeal a September decision by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals rejecting a request to block the law on the basis that the ban violates the 14th Amendment's due process clause.
