A woman who passed away last year has left a hefty inheritance to her seven Persian cats.

Nancy Sauer died on November 26, 2022, at the age of 84. She had no surviving family members; her husband and son died before her. As a result, her seven beloved cats took center stage in her life during her final years.

According to Sauer's will, her cats are to reside in her $2.5 million mansion, which cannot be sold until the demise of the last cat. However, due to the absence of clear ownership for the cats, they are currently under the care of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay while a permanent home is being sought.

"I am going to personally make sure that we can keep as many together as we can and that they go to the perfect house," said Sherry Silk, the executive director of the Humane Society, in a conversation with the Tampa Bay Times.

The eventual adopters of the cats will receive more than just charming companions; they'll also inherit a sizable fortune. Each of the cats is set to receive an inheritance. Although the precise amount is yet to be determined, Silk confirmed it will be "substantial...enough to cover the cats’ food, medical and grooming bills forever. They’re young. They’re only 5 years old. Persians can be expensive and persnickety."

The cats will be put up for adoption later this week.
